This site will help fill in some of the gaps not provided in other forums regarding the trials and tribulations of Foreign Medical Graduates. The goal of this blog is to cover topics for FMGs that have been accepted to a residency program, are going through training (residency and/or fellowship), those in the process of getting their first job, and those in early practice.
I am an FMG and completed both a general surgery residency and a subspecialty fellowship. I work and live in the Pacific Northwest. The first blog has some information on my own journey. We will cover topics such as ensuring success through residency and fellowship, things to keep an eye on as fellowship/job application season comes through, figuring out what to look for in your first job, how to transition to a second job if need be, and also some advice on dealing with the non-medical aspects of your life. The latter include information on personal finance, managing relationships, acclimating to American culture, starting a family, childcare, and many other topics! As always, I take feedback very seriously, and if you have any comments, concerns, or wishes on specific topics, please let me know!
